Maria Montessori identified creativity as a key Human Tendency. She viewed creativity in its broadest sense, linking in with every aspect of the child’s development.
Studies show that music promotes more divergent thinking – which is a key element of creativity and the world today needs the problems solvers of tomorrow to be creative thinkers. Creativity encourages viewing things with new perspectives and trying new things. Creativity in the Montessori environment is about that encouragement to think outside of the box. This is a skill that needs to be nurtured and developed. Music education is an opportunity for this skill to be supported, developed and nurtured.
