Have you ever experienced that special moment in life that is so wonderful and profound, yet you struggle to describe it? Moments that are so exciting and exhilarating that tears fill our eyes, we get a tingle in our spine, we feel goosebumps on our arms YET words fail us.
A parent of a child will experience many such moments as their child first smiles at them; fixes their adoring gaze on them; takes their first step; says their first words…
This special time of childhood where the most rapid development takes place is the time when the strongest foundations for the adult that they will become are laid is also filled with wonder and awe – for the adult that the child will develop into.
In the first five years of a human’s life, that crucial command centre of the entire body – THE BRAIN – develops most rapidly than at any other time. Maria Montessori called this stage of development the “Absorbent Mind” stage. Scientific research clearly indicates that the quality of experiences in the first few years of a child’s life – both positive and negative – will help shape how their brain develops; and these experiences will have a lasting impact on that human’s future outcomes.
THAT IS WHY EARLY YEARS MATTER
Montessori Global Education is so thrilled with their partnership with Home-Start West Somerset, which is part of Home-Start UK who have supported 56000 children in 27000 families because they too strongly believe that “the earliest years make the strongest impact.
Our partnership with Home-Start West Somerset has included training a group of practitioners in the principles of Montessori principles and practice, these practitioners are undertaking our Integrating Montessori Practice (IMP): Infant & Toddler Specialism (Birth-Three years) blended learning course, supported by a dedicated Tutor. This course will help them to understand how the training impacts their approach to delivering responsive, individualised family support.
We are also thrilled to endorse Baby-Start, delivered by Home-Start West Somerset. Baby-Start is an interactive programme for local parents with babies aged 0-12 months. It empowers new families to give their baby the best possible start in life – educating parents about the importance of child development, promoting attachment between infants and caregivers, providing opportunities for peer support and developing friendships, and equipping parents with confidence to offer their babies choice in their own learning.
Clare Pound, Manager at Home-Start West Somerset stated:
“The Montessori approach works brilliantly in parallel with Home-Start’s own practice. We’re so excited about a future with Montessori – and especially the Baby-Start programme Endorsement, what an accolade! Now planning is in place for further child and family led schemes”.
