Talk & Move is a holistic programme that supports children’s speech, language, and emotional regulation through movement. Talk & Move was founded by Helen Guntrip, a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist and pre-school yoga teacher with over 20 years experience supporting families and educators.
Talk & Move’s mission is to support the whole child, it is a unique approach that combines body movements with vocabulary, speech sound and phonological awareness development. The programme is accessible and inclusive, respecting the individual development of every child. Different learning styles are supported through use of Talk & Move cards, signing, and movement.
The combination of active, balancing and calming moves in the programme provides parents and educators with a range of ways to support children’s emotional regulation. The active moves energise children, the balancing move provide an opportunity to develop focus and concentration and the calming moves support rest and relaxation.
Talk & Move training is available both in-person and online for parents, educators, and professionals wishing to implement the approach in their setting. Training can be tailored to meet the needs and context of participants. It is delivered by Helen Guntrip, the founder of Talk & Move, to ensure a high-quality, effective learning experience, with opportunities for reflection and discussion.
Talk & Move cards accompany the programme and contain 29 cards each with a different move and sound. On one side of the card is a colourful picture which provides a visual aid to support children’s learning. On the other side is a reminder for the adult of the move, sound, the syllables and rhyming words. The cards can be used as a motivating activity with individual children, as a small group or whole class session. These cards can be purchased online.
