Montessori Global Education Awards 2024

We are proud to announce the recipients of our 2024 International Montessori Awards, which recognise individuals and organisations working to promote excellence in education – highlighting those make a meaningful difference in their community.

We were hugely impressed with the quality and range of nominations this year, submitted from all around the world. Each submission demonstrated the nominees’ deep commitment to a holistic, Montessori approach to education (whether Montessori in name or not!), social and emotional learning, and helping young people thrive.

We thank and congratulate every single one of our nominees for the vital work they do – going above and beyond for their learners.

This year, our judging panel included two previous Award winners – Lynn Cumpsty-Steyn, Chief Executive Officer, help2read, and winner of the International Montessori Award for Education for Social Change, 2023; and Soraya Cofie. Montessori Parent Coach & Education Consultant Founder, Montessori Community College and winner of the International Montessori Award for Outstanding Contribution to Montessori in Practice, 2022. Those judges brought their unique perspectives and wide experience to the judging panel – enriching our reflections and decision making.

Our winners this year are:

Educator of the Year: Miriam Magre Loren, Montessori Educator, Costa Rica

“Ms Magre Loren stands out as my first choice as she has consistently brought about change in the lives of children over a long period of time. The change that she brings is not short-lived but is evident long after the children have left her class and direct influence. Her approach emphasises individual attention that challenges the children to do the best, not for her, but for themselves. Ms Loren seemingly uses a variety of different methods, tailored to the individual child and is evidently a wonder-worker with whatever challenge the child may be facing. The parents of the children feel valued and included in Ms Loren’s approach to teaching. Many remark on how well organised and prepared Ms Loren always is. My deep appreciation is expressed for the way in which she never stops learning herself and readily shares this information with her colleagues, parents and the children themselves.”

Lynn Cumpsty-Steyn, Chief Executive, help2read – Winner of International Montessori Award for Education for Social Change, 2023.
Community Learning Initiative of the Year: Growing Space CIC, UK

“Growing Space emphasizes hands-on learning through gardening, mirroring Montessori’s focus on practical life skills and connecting with nature. Growing Space facilitates family and community involvement through activities like art projects and volunteering days, building a strong school community, a crucial element for Montessori education. The nomination itself highlights the project’s value to the local community.

Growing Space exemplifies the essence of Montessori education. They create a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters well-being, a connection with nature, and a sense of community.”

Soraya Cofie. Montessori Parent Coach & Education Consultant Founder, Montessori Community College and winner of the International Montessori Award for Outstanding Contribution to Montessori in Practice, 2022.
Young Champion Award for a Sustainable Future:
Divna and Preslav, Montessori High, Bulgaria

“Divna and Preslav impressed us with their commitment and determination to a sustainable future through their shared learning about the protection of marine life. Working together, they actively engage with tools that help them to learn and take action to protect the future of the environment and our planet. Their care and curiosity truly inspires us, just as we hope it will inspire other young people!”

Karen Chetwynd, Chief Executive Officer, Montessori Global Education

We’ll be sharing more about our winners and amplifying their impressive work in the Network very soon, to inspire others in their work to help young people and their communities to thrive. Stay tuned!
